Warm Bodies

This movie is a twist on the typical Zombie movie.  With the Walking Dead we are taught Zombies are damned to roam the earth emotionless, Warm Bodies teaches us there may be hope after all.  The main character, R (because he can't remember his real name, after all he is a Zombie), starts to notice he still has some feelings left.  The feelings get stronger once he meets a girl, Julie.  After he saves her life and shows Julie his world,  she starts to come around, noticing how human R is becoming.  Of course no young adult romance would be complete without the father who is totally against the union.  Enter John Malkovich, perfect as the father set in his beliefs but also wanting the approval of his daughter.  This is a light hearted movie that will make you laugh, squirm a little (nobody wants to see anyone eating a brain), and cheer for Zombie love!!!

Black Tie Cooking Class

I have been taking a monthly cooking class that everyone has been asking me about, so I wanted to share some information and some pictures of the delicious food!!  Jerry Gallegos started Black Tie Catering in 2003 and has been preparing and dazzling New Mexicans ever since with his delicious creations in the kitchen and his unmistakable charm.  Recently Chef Jerry decided to take it a step further by offering a monthly cooking class to help us bring his unique flavor home to our families.

January's theme was La Bella Luna.  The night started with an appetizer of Crispy Zucchini Fries with Garlic-Basil Marinara Dipping Sauce.

The featured soup of the night was Pasta Fagioli, but it could easily substitute for a meal in itself.  It is a hearty mix of Sausage, Herbs,  and cute cuts of Pasta.  When I close my eyes I can still smell the fabulous aroma.

Pasta Fagioli

The salad was Fresh Zucchini Ribbons and Tomatoes with Pesto Vinaigrette Dressing.

But the highlight of the evening had to be the main course.  Classic Chicken Marsala Served with Pasta.

Classic Chicken Marsala

I tried this recipe at home and it was easy to make and it made a big impression on my family.  They have asked for it three times since then.

I can hardly wait for the love month of February.  Chef Jerry has chosen to prepare Baked Brown Sugar and Dijon Brie with Crostini.  Brussel Sprouts with Warm Bacon Dressing.  An entree of Stuffed Pork Chops with Apple Brandy Sauce.  And for dessert, my favorite, Bananas Foster Flambe.

You can sign up now and be a part of the fun on February 12th.  Just go to loveisintheair.eventzilla.net

Friendly Car Repair

Yesterday I had to do what most women dread, take the car in to get serviced.  I know I can't be alone on this,  it is one of the worst things you have to do on your own.  I put the call out on Facebook, give me suggestions on who will fix my brakes without breaking the bank.  The 'overall' response was Wayne Overall of Overall Services Auto Body Repair and Paint, located near Central and Eubank.  Wayne was wonderful!!  He didn't talk down at me, he gave me the best deal, and explained what they were doing so I could take away a little knowledge for the next time I need to get my brakes repaired.  The office is very pleasent as well...carpeting in the bathrooms and a beautiful couch to relax on while they are working on your car.  He even showed my some of his other projects.  I will definately go here from now on for my car repair.

A car being custom painted.  That red is amazing!!

This is the actual front from a VW bus that he is turning into a bar for a client.

You can call them at (505) 633-7210 or check out the website at overallautorepair.com.....and tell them Kiki sent you!!!

Miss New Mexico USA

What an exciting weekend!!  The New Mexico Miss & Teen USA Pageant took place in Las Cruces.  Competition was fierce.  17 teens and 20 misses competed for the top prize, a trip to the Miss USA & Miss Teen USA Pageants.  Some stand outs on the Miss Teen side, Tawanda Suessbrich-Joaquin who was voted Miss Congeniality.  Sarah Saldana and Elizabeth Nelson.  But the crown went to Miss Mesilla Teen Addi Smith who was breath taking in her gown and well spoken in the question and answer component.  On the Miss side, my favorites were Grayce Lovejoy and Carin Annique Malm. But I am proud to say Miss Albuquerque Kathleen Danzer impressed the judges and walked away with the crown.  Congratulations going out to both Addi and Kathleen.  Addi now goes on to Miss Teen USA and Kathleen is off to the Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas, NV in June.

Rock of Ages

If you ever dreamed of a being a Rock Star......this is the show for you.  Rock of Ages is now open at Popejoy Hall.  Not knowing the premise of the story, I attended opening night and found myself dancing in the aisles.  This production takes music from the eighties and turns them into a love story everyone can relate to.  Set on the Sunset Strip,  in the eighties, at L.A.'s most legendary rock club.  A small town girl and a big city boy realize sometimes your destiny is better than any dream you can imagine.  Get your big hair ready and wear your best Def Leppard t-shirt.  This Rock and Roll journey will have you singing into you hairbrush for weeks to come.

Tickets are available at the UNM Box Office or you can call (505) 664-8661.

Members of the cast recently visited Morning Mayhem on 93.3 KOB-FM.  Megan McHugh who plays Regina and Universo Pereira who plays Stacee Jaxx were so much fun to have in the studio!!!

Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away

Spectacular!!  That is one way to describe this movie.  Having never been to a live show in Vegas I wasn't totally sure what to expect from this movie, but with James Cameron and director Andrew Adamson at the helm this is a "can't miss".  The acrobatics are breath taking and the bonus is the love story.  Aerialists swim, soar, and defy gravity all while making you feel as though they are live in front of you.  I would highly recommend this movie for the whole family.  It makes a great "Family Night Out".

Spring Trends 2013

It is hard to believe on this cold winter day that Spring is right around the corner.....but it is!!  Taking a look at different websites there are lots of trends to look forward to.  Looks like Bermuda Shorts are going to be hot this year.  Also, we will see lower heels....around 2 inches....and Ballerina Flats will be popping up as well.  One of my faves is Statement Sunglasses.  My Mom always told me the bigger the better, and it looks like this spring everyone is going to jump on board with her motto.  We could see a lot of leather this year....and of course, in time for Easter, Floral Dresses with big belts.  I don't know about you,  but I can hardly wait!!!

Dillard's New Years Day Sale

I got up bright and early today to check out the big sale I have heard so much about. It is pretty spectacular.  Most everything on clearance is marked down an extra fifty percent.  My suggestion is to do some recon work so you can fight the crowds.  Already looking forward to next year;)
